An Author Platform for a Memoir Years in the Making

Rockie Lyons spent her career in academia and the corporate world before returning to writing. Her memoir, Behind the Counter: An American Dream Turned Tragic, tells the story of her family’s Midwestern café and the 1982 tragedy that changed them forever. As the book has moved toward publication, her website has grown from a simple one-page introduction into a complete author platform.

The site is organized around each of her audiences:

  • Readers: a book overview with an excerpt, historic photos of Bob’s Café and reader responses
  • Press: a growing archive of her published articles and radio interviews, credited to every outlet where each appeared
  • Agents and publishers: a dedicated page with downloadable preview materials
  • Everyone: a contact form for publishing, media and speaking inquiries

A newsletter signup builds her readership ahead of publication. The list is managed right inside her website, and emails go out through a dedicated sending service so announcements land in inboxes, not spam folders.

The design is warm and literary: classic serif typography, a light and dark mode, and a quick-contact bar on mobile keep the focus on her words on every device.

The site is on our Website Management Plan, so updates, security and hosting are handled while Rockie focuses on her writing.
